The ACC, Florida State and Clemson have resumed talks on revenue sharing over the past few weeks, according to several sources.
The discussions pertain to conference revenue distribution based on brand valuation and television ratings.
The talks reportedly also include the conference’s grant of rights agreement. Sources indicate the schools desire to alter the agreement’s current expiration date (2036) to 2030, in exchange for both schools dropping their lawsuits against the conference.
The talks are described as preliminary, but at least everyone is at the table and talking again.
The ACC distributed an average of $44.8 million per school in 2022-23. The revenue gap between the ACC and the SEC was roughly $7M per school. However, that gap could grow to more than $30 million as the SEC’s new television contract begins this year.
According to an ESPN report, the ACC and the network are also in talks regarding the network’s exclusive option to extend the league's television contract from 2027 through 2036. ESPN must decide to pick up or decline their option by February 2025.
Our college athletic world continues battle for high ground.
