Miami went into the winter Transfer Portal needing to address major needs on the defense side of the ball.


On Saturday, the Canes landed two defensive transfer commits when former Michigan State cornerback Charles Brantley and former Louisiana Tech defensive tackle David Blay committed to Miami. The Canes also landed the commitments of former FAU kicker Carter Davis and former Charlotte long snapper Adam Booker. They join former Jackonville safety Zechariah Poyser and former LSU wide receiver CJ Daniels.


Charles Brantley:

Charles, the #9 cornerback in the Transfer Portal, comes to Miami after four years at Michigan State.


At 6’-1”/170 pounds, he is a three year starter with 24 starts across four seasons. Originally from Venice, Florida, Charles played 478 defensive snaps in 2024 with 27 tackles, two tackles for loss, and three interceptions. He broke up seven more passes, and didn't allow a touchdown while in coverage. He was targeted 38 times and allowed just 14 receptions (36.9 percent completion percentage) for just 149 yards. One of his interceptions was for a 100 yard touchdown.


David Blay:

David is rated a four-star transfer portal prospect, according to 247Sports. He committed to Miami over such schools as Penn State, Kentucky, and USC.


At 6’-4”/303, David was named First-Team All-Conference USA in 2024. He played 443 defensive snaps with 46 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks, mostly at nose tackle. 247Sports graded David at 92. According to Pro Football Focus, he earned a 76.9 run defense grade, an 80.2 tackling grade, and a 64.7 pass rush grade. David generated 12 pressures and was credited with just two missed tackles on the year.


LS Adam Booker: 

At 6’-4”/205, Booker, is a veteran snapper with a 98 percent snap target grade over the past two seasons.


K Carter Davis:

Carter is a kickoff specialist with an 81 percent touchback percentage. He will compete with freshman Abram Murray for kicking duties in 2025.
