Cam Ward wins Davey O’Brien Award


Miami star quarterback Cam Ward earned another post-season award when he was announced the Davey O’Brien Award winner on Thursday night.


The O’Brien Award, officially the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, is presented annually to the collegiate American football player judged by the Davey O'Brien Foundation to be the best of all National Collegiate Athletic Association quarterbacks.


Ward is the third Miami Hurricane quarterback to receive the award along with Vinny Testaverde and Gino Torretta.


Post-season awards have come in droves for Ward. He is also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, which will be awarded on Saturday. Ward was also named the ACC Player of the Year and the AP ACC Offensive Player of the Year. 


Ward, led Miami to a 10-2 record and set the Miami single-season records in passing yards (4,126) and touchdown passes (36) while completing 67.4% of his passes. He also has earned the nation’s top quarterback rating, according to ESPN and the best offensive grade among starting quarterbacks, according to Pro Football Focus.
