Canes fall in OT, 98-94

Miami gave Cal all they could handle but pulled up short in overtime, 98-94, on Saturday night in Berkley. It was Miami’s ninth straight loss.


With one second on the clock in regulation, Matthew Cleveland hit a 3-point shot to send the game to overtime. However, Cal reeled off the next seven points and sealed the game.


For the game, Cleveland scored 30 points. He is averaging 20.9 points over the last 10 games. Brandon Johnson added 16 points, hitting four of Miami’s 14 shots from 3-point range.


Miami (4-16, 0-9 ACC) shot 45.6 percent (31 of 68) from the field and 51.9 percent (14 of 27) from 3-point range while California shot 49.2 percent (31 of 63) from the floor and 32.1 percent (9 of 28) from beyond the arc.


The Canes return home on Wednesday to host Virginia (9-11, 2-7 ACC). Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Watsco Center. Coverage will be provided by ESPN2/ESPNU and WQAM-560.
