As satisfying as Georgia Tech’s victory was, there was something else worth noting about the game, the revue.

The game was played at Aviva Stadium with a seating capacity of 51,711 spectators. The stadium is a bowl shape with four tiers on three sides of the ground; the lower and upper tiers are for general access, the second and third levels feed the second tier for premium tickets and the third tier for corporate boxes. The northern end of the stadium, due to its proximity to local neighborhoods, incorporates only the lower tier of the bowl. This end of the stadium could be used for the student and band sections.

The premium level holds 10,000 spectators, while the box level holds 1,300.[2] The remaining 38,700 seats are shared between the top and bottom tiers. An undulating partial roof surrounds all seating areas.

Over the years, the subject of a home stadium for the Hurricanes has been discussed and debated among the university community and fans all around south Florida.

Boosters have expressed interest in building a home stadium for the university. The size most talked about has been around 50,000 seats. The Aviva Stadium checks that box. Its partial roof checks that box. Its high stands would keep the noise in and thus checks that box. There’s not much to not like about the intriguing Aviva’ design.

Sites such as Tropical Park and Virginia Key have been criticized by civil groups at every turn. It’s clear that building such a stadium is not about the money, but special interests. It may never happen.

But the thought of our own home field remains intriguing.
