Down the Stretch: the final touches

Miami is coming strong down the stretch on the recruiting trail. The Canes are fighting hard to land their third consecutive Top 10 recruiting class.

At this time, Miami’s 2025 class is ranked #10 in the country, with 23 verbal commitments going into the last week of the cycle.

It’s generally agreed that Miami is focused on seven remaining targets (And now there are seven!”). It’s doubtful the Canes will sign seven more high school recruits. So, let’s look at the landscape from a roster need perspective.

Miami is prioritizing defensive back, wide receivers, defensive tackles and linebackers. As such, if everything falls into place on December 4th, we feel Miami will like to take one defensive back, one wide receiver, one defensive tackle and one linebacker. However, there is a scenario where Miami signs three additional targets that fulfill most of their roster needs.

Let’s look at those four positions.

Defensive Back:

The Canes are focused on DB/WR DJ Pickett and CB Ben Hanks. Would Miami take both? Possible if we strike out at wide receiver. Pickett could become college football’s next Travis Hunter.

Wide Receiver:

At the top of Miami’s board are Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III. Both are flip candidates. Both will be difficult to flip. It’s possible the Canes get neither. Read summary above on DBs.

Defensive Tackle:

Miami is pushing hard and is all-in to flip Jarquez Carter from the Buckeyes. The Canes will be young and talented on the interior in 2025. They want Carter bad and we feel Miami will also go to the transfer portal for at least one experienced college tackle with production.

Linebacker:

Miami is targeting Tarvos Alford and Kellen Wiley at linebacker. The Canes love both prospect. Don’t be surprised if Miami signs both, depending the outcomes of the recruiting battles above.

BOTTOM LINE:

The recruiting battles are fierce and will likely go down to signing day. Mario Cristobal is a relentless recruiter. We feel Miami is positioned for 3-4 additional recruits.

With a week to go before pen meets paper, our projection is Pickett, Hanks, and Alford join Miami’s 2025 class.

If they are added to Miami’s current class, the class would have a final score of 283.44 which would have ranked #7, in 2024, #8 in 2023 and #6 in 2022.

OK, we are out on the proverbial limb.

GO CANES!
