GAME BALLS: Duke

As is our tradition at CaneReports, we award game balls after each victory. This past weekend our Canes charged from behind again to soundly defeat Duke, 53-31.

It’s not rock science this week.

Here are our game ball recipients for the DUKE game.

Miami’s offense:

For the ninth straight game, the Canes’ offense amassed at least 500 yards of total offense (526 yds). Let that sink in for a moment. Against a defense that is one of the best in the ACC, Miami offense ran 74 plays, averaging 7.3 yards per play. They scored touchdowns on five of the final seven drives. That’s a dominating offense effort under pressure.

QB Cam Ward:

What more can e said about Cam Ward. On Saturday, he again led a Miami’s “come from behind” offense to soundly beat a good Blue Devil defense. Cam went 25-41 for 400 passing yards, 5 touchdowns. He shredded Duke’s 36-3 defense on the stretch.

WR Xavier Restrepo:

Mr. Clutch did it again, this time in historic fashion. For the day, Xavier led all receivers with 146 yards and three touchdown on 8 receptions (18.3 YPC). His last touchdown, a 66 yard strike down the seam, broke the back of the Blue Devils. Xavier is now the all-time Miami leader in career receptions (182) and career yards (2,573.)

BOTTOM LINE:

Miami’s offense turned in another dominating performance after a slow start. With three games remaining, we could be witnessing an historic season.

Miami (9-0, 5-0 ACC) heads to Atlanta this Saturday to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-4, 3-3 ACC). Kickoff is set for noon at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Coverage will be provided by ESPN and WQAM-560.
