GAME BALLS: VT

Miami showed a lot of toughness and persistence in their wild and sloppy 38-34 win over Virginia Tech on Friday evening.

As is our tradition, CaneReports awards game balls after a victory. Here are our four game balls for outstanding performance and impact against Virginia Tech.

QB CAM WARD

It wasn’t his best game by a long shot. But when the chips were down, Cam Ward led Miami’s comeback to the game-winning touchdown. For the day, Ward completed 24-of-38 passing attempts for 343 yards with four passing touchdowns. He also used his legs to rush for 57 yards and a 17-yard touchdown. Yes, he had some mistakes, but he never lost faith and provide leadership amongst adversity.

TE ELIJAH ARROYO

In 2023, Miami’s tight ends were missing from the Canes offense. Not in 2024. While he caught only two passes, both were deep shots and set the tone for Miami’s passing attack. His early 45 yard touchdown announced to the Hokies they needed to account for Arroyo on every play. He turned in an astounding 36 yards after catch for the day. Arroyo also graded out 81.9 run blocking grade, tops on the team.

OL FRANCIS MAUIGOA

Miami’s big right tackle Francis Mauigoa gets better with every game. He graded out with an overall PFF grade of 80.0 and earned an 81.6 run blocking grade and a 74.2 pass blocking grade. Mauigoa didn’t allow a sack and only one pressure..

LB WESLEY BISSAINTHE

Wesley was the highest graded defender for the Canes on Friday night, registering six tackles and two pressures. For his performance, he earned a 76.0 run defense grade and a 70.6 tackling grade. Wesley is playing with more confidence every game. And it shows on the field.

Congratulations to all our Canes!
