Despite more than a two-hour weather delay, the Miami Hurricanes (0-0, 3-0 ) finally made landfall at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday evening. The No. 10 Hurricanes dismantled the Ball State Cardinals, 62-0 in front of an announced rain soaked crowd of 51,564.
Neither team knew how their team would react to the long delay. They found out quickly. Miami roared out to a 31-0 lead by halftime before clearing their bench early in the second half. It didn’t matter as the Canes’s offense rolled up 750 total yards while the defense held the Cardinals to only 115 yards.
Miami was again led by senior quarterback Cam Ward, going 19-28 for 346 yards (12.4 YPC) and five touchdown passes. WR Jacolby George led Miami receivers with 109 yards on 6 receptions and a touchdown. The Canes added 243 yards on the ground, with RB Ajay Allen bursting for 104 yards in the second half, including a 56-yd run for a touchdown.
Miami’s defense yielded only 6 yards on the ground and 4 sacks. LBs Francisco Mauigoa and Wesley Bissainthe led the Canes with 6 tackles each, with DT Simeon Barrow contributed 4 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks to the shutout effort.
Miami goes on the road next Saturday to take on a tough USF Bulls (0-0, 2-1 AAC) team in Tampa.
GO CANES!
