IF I were ACC Commissioner… counter move

EDITORIAL

by TexCane

As we turn the page to 2025, let’s examine the situation with the Atlantic Coast Conference going into the new year from the perspective of the commissioner, Jim Phillips.

In part one of our series, we took a number of bold, new strategic moves to establish a new 48-school Mega Conference, the Mega48.

In part two of our series, we took a look at a potential four division structure that makes sense.

In part three of our series, we will take a brief look at a potential counter move by the Super Two.

With the threat of the new emerging Mega48, the SEC and Big Ten could employ a counter move in response.

DIVIDE & CONQUER:

The SEC and Big Ten could counter by quickly expanding to twenty schools in each of their conferences.

Simply offer conference membership to the Mega48’s major brands. Florida State and Clemson already have made known their intentions to leave the ACC. Notre Dame might be ready to join the Big Ten. Miami, North Carolina, Duke and Kansas may be willing to take the Super Two big money.

If so, the Mega48 may have to offer financial incentives to their major brands.

BOTTOM LINE:

The Super Two won’t just sit there and do nothing. They were willing to destroy the PAC-12, so we should expect them to combat any threat to their power. Can the Mega48 hold onto these schools?

Time will tell.
