Introducing the TEX-20

November 24, 2024

Let's have some FUN!

With college football is in chaos, the CFP and AP ranking criteria is inconsistent and confusing, not to mention their brand bias. The rankings have brought nothing but controversy. They have little to no credibility with the public.

We at the CaneReports thought it might be fun to step back and take a different perspective… No Polls. No Brand bias.

Let’s look at it from a Performance perspective.

The NCAA has long stated their desire to weigh conference championships and field performance heavily for the national playoffs.

OK, let’s do it with as little subjectivity as possible. We introduce the TEX-20 Rankings.

1. Oregon 11-0

No debate here. Until proven otherwise, the Ducks hold the top spot.

2. Texas 10-1

The Long Horns have more than leveled the playing field in the SEC. Until proven otherwise, Texas is the best in that conference.

3. Ohio State 10-1

Despite showing some vulnerability, the Buckeyes are in the conversation for a run at the national championship.

4. Notre Dame 10-1

After a disastrous start, the Irish have quietly rebuilt their resume. Can they make a run?

5. Boise State 10-1

The Broncos have emerged as the surprising team out of the Mountain West. Are the a “paper tiger?”

6. Penn State 10-1

The Nittany Lions don’t have many impressive wins but they have wins. And that counts.

7. Indiana 10-1

Nobody gave the Hoosiers much chance before the season. However they have earned a high ranking on the field.

8. SMU 10-1

Surprise! Like the Hoosiers, the Mustangs have surprised and earned a place at our table.

9. Miami 10-1

Nobody likes the Hurricanes, but they have delivered the most exciting offense in the country. Field performance counts.

10. Army 9-1

Another surprise team that has delivered results. You play who is put in front of you.

11. Clemson 9-2

Given up for dead after a horrible start, the Tigers have quietly taken care of business.

12. Arizona State 9-2

The Sun Devils have made a loud and late push for national attention. They’re getting it.

13. Georgia 9-2

Like BYU, the Dawgs refuse to go away. Consistency? Too little, too late?

14. BYU 9-2

The Cougars have stubbled lately, but their body of work has kept them in the hunt.

15. UNLV 9-2

The Rebels are a dangerous team but flawed somewhat. However, they deserve a place at our table

16. Tennessee 9-2

A very talented team that has stumbled but remained in the conversation.

17. Iowa State 9-2

The Cyclones are a very solid team nobody talks about. We are.

18. Colorado 8-3

Coach Prime has rebuilt a team with elite talent at key positions. That makes the Buffs exciting but frustrating.

19. Illinois 8-3

The Illini have surprised a lot of people and have earned a high bowl berth.

20. Texas A&M 8-3

The Aggies are another team that has remained in the conversation. They get another chance this week when they take on arch-rival Texas.

BOTTOM LINE:

Let’s keep it fun! Focus on conference championship games and field performance. You can’t go wrong, I think. Our rankings could, and probably will, change by next Sunday.

Bring on the chaos and controversy!

GO CANES!
