Iowa State rallies to defeat Miami, 42-41


Iowa State defeated Miami, 42-41, at the Pop Tarts Bowl in Orlando on Saturday. 


Iowa State jumped out to an early until Miami made a second rally to take a 31-28 halftime lead. The second half saw Miami's offensive line wear down Iowa State on the way to rushing for 304 yards. But Iowa State rallied late to score the winning touchdown with less than a minute on the clock.


"Disappointed that we couldn't pull out a victory," said Miami coach Mario Cristobal. “These guys have always fought and always competed and this was no exception. ...


"It's painful. It's as painful as it gets when you don't win. But there's a lot to build on.”


The Canes gained 524 total yards of offense to the Cyclones’ 415 yards.


Quarterback Cam Ward led Miami’s passing attack, going 12-19 for 190 yards and 3 touchdowns in one half of play. Red shirt freshman Emory Williams played the second half and ent 5-14 for 26 yards and one interception.


The Canes’ rushing attack was led by Damien Martinez with 179 yards on 14 carries (12.8 ypc).


Miami’s receivers were led by Elijah Arroyo with 4 receptions for 64 yards and 1 touchdown. JoJo Trader also contributed 3 receptions of 61 yards and 1 touchdown. Jacolby George also had 2 receptions for 24 yards and one touchdown.


The Canes’ defense was led by LB Francisco Mauigoa with 8 tackles/6 solo. Safety Mishael Powell also contributed with 7 tackles (6 solo).


Miami finished their season at 10-3.


The 2024 season provided exciting action and thrilling finishes for all Cane fans. Congratulations to our players, coaches and staff for a wonderful season. We look forward to beating Notre Dame on opening day 2026 at “The ROCK” over Labor Day weekend.
