With spring practice in the books, Miami’s coaching staff has a better feel for their roster needs going into summer. It’s time for the staff to address their final needs in the spring portal.

The spring portal window opens on Wednesday, April 16th and runs through April 25h. Players can enter the portal during this window and a transfer any time until the start of the season.

The CaneReports will monitor and track Miami’s portal activity. Check back often for the latest updates.

Potential Targets:

DT Braxton Fely (Boise State)

WR Trebor Pena (Syracuse)

QB Brendan Sullivan (Iowa)

WR Johntay Cook II (Washington)

S Gregory Smith III (Florida)

DT Tunmise Adeleye (Texas State)

Departures:

Arrivals:

To be determined....

Needs: We feel Miami needs to shore up the following position groups.

Safety: (1)

Miami has talent in this group, just not enough with proven game experience. Look for the Canes to turn to the portal to find a veteran.

Wide Receiver: (1-2)

READ Safety. Look for Miami to search for a quality slot receiver and a veteran wide out for depth before going into battle this fall.

Defensive Tackle: (1)

The young bucks are ready to step up but Miami needs another veteran rotational piece.

Linebacker: (1)

Look for Hetherman to investigate the portal for a veteran depth piece to round out this group .

Quarterback: (1)

Our young quarterbacks struggled during spring practice. Given the health status of Carson Beck and the inexperience of the young quarterbacks, look for OC Shannon Dawson to shop for a veteran backup in the portal.

Running Back: (1)

Miami enters the 2025 season with only four scholarship running backs. That's a little thin considering the physical nature of the position. Look for Miami to search the portal for a depth running back.

BOTTOM LINE:

Head coach Mario Cristobal has rebuilt this roster since his his arrival. He’s focused on high school recruitment, supplemented with transfers to fill remaining roster needs. Each year the number transfers has decreased. Look for the smallest number of holes to fill with 6-7 transfers this spring.

That’s a good sign. This transfer cycle could signify the roster is ready to compete for championships.

GO CANES!
