Miami opens their 2024 in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday. They take on Florida in the Swamp at 3:30 p.m.. The Canes enter the game as 2.5 point favorites.
After much discussion and debate during the off-season, here are four keys to victory for Miami.
Battle in the Trenches:
If I could only one key to this game, it would be the battle in the trenches. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal this week described the upcoming clashes on the line of scrimmage as “a muddy, bloody battle.” The lines of both teams are huge physically.
Miami's Offensive Line:
Miami’s offensive line has been built by OL coach Alex Mirabal and head coach Mario Cristobal to compete against SEC level teams. Coach Cristobal likes an offense that can pound the ball at will. The Canes’ line is now poised for the challenge. Florida’s defensive line is big and physical. This match-up could be the deciding factors in the game.
Miami's Defensive Line:
The battle along Miami’s defensive line could be equally pivotal. The Canes are believed to have one of, if not the best defensive line in the ACC this season. Florida’s offensive line is also very big but has been overhauled for this season. The Gators must prove they can stay with the big-time competitive defensive lines they will see in the SEC this season. If Miami’s front seven can dominate Florida’s offensive line, any concerns about the back of the Canes’ defense will be moot.
BOTTOM LINE:
Can the Gators’ defensive stop the vaulted Miami running attack? Can Miami’s defensive line keep the pressure on Florida’s offense?
They call it the “Battle in the Trenches.” It will be "a muddy, and bloody battle."
Wars are won in those trenches.
GO CANES!
