Miami (10-1, 6-1 ACC) will travel to Syracuse to take on the Syracuse Orange (8-3, 4-3 ACC) on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome.
The game is essentially a playoff game for the Canes. Win Saturday and you earn a berth in the ACC Championship Game on December 7th. Lose and your fabulous season is over.
After viewing game footage and analyzing the data and reports, we feel there are three keys to a Miami victory.
1. Keep the ball away from Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord leads the nation in passing yardage. The Orange average 31.7 points per game. McCord averages 48 passes per game. If you let him control the tempo of the game, he will pick you apart.
So, how do you accomplish this goal?
2. Play ball control…
Control the ball and clock with a punishing and time consuming running attack.
Syracuse has the worst run defense in the ACC this season. The Orange defense allows 153 yards per game, 79th in the country. The Orange tackling grade in #114 in the nation. Put up 200 yards on the ground against Syracuse and limit McCord’s opportunities to control the tempo of the game.
3. Pressure, pressure, pressure!
Miami’s defensive line must go all in on pressuring McCord. He has a history of making mistakes when pressured. Remember, he has 12 interceptions going into the game.
BOTTOM LINE:
Control the ball and clock. Limit Syracuse’s offensive opportunities. Cam Ward will then finish them off.
GO CANES!
