Miami running back Damien Martinez officially declared for the FL Draft on Monday.
Damien had one year of eligibility remaining but chose to leave early for the draft. He arrived at Miami in 2024 from Oregon State via the transfer portal.
He brought experience, power and quickness to the Canes’ backfield. Damien rushed for 1,002 yards on 159 carries for a 6.3 yard average per carry, scoring 10 touchdowns. He became Miami's first 1,000-yard back since Mark Walton rushed for 1,117 in 2016. Damien also caught 17 passes for 204 yards. In his last game against Iowa State, he rushed for 179 yards (12.8 ypc) and one touchdown.
Damien is off to the NFL now. We wish him nothing but the best as he takes the next step in his football career.
He will forever be a Cane.
