The College Football Playoff selection committee released their latest playoff ranking on Tuesday night. The Miami Hurricanes (9-1, 5-1 ACC) are now ranked #8, moving up one spot from last week’s rankings.
The top four of the five conference champions will automatically receive a top-4 seed and first round bye. The current top four seeds are Oregon (Big Ten), Texas (SEC), Miami (ACC) and Boise State (Mountain West).
Miami is now projected to receive the 3-seed as the ACC champion and would earn a bye into the quarterfinals on Jan. 1 at the Peach Bowl. The Canes are now projected to face the winner of 6-seed Penn State and 11-seed Georgia.
The quarterfinal winner would face the winner of 2-seed Texas and 7-seed Indiana/10-seed Mississippi in the semifinals, which would be in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10.
Miami has two regular season game remaining, against Wake Forest and Syracuse. If they win out, they will earn a berth in the ACC Championship game on December 7th in Charlotte.
Playoff Schedule:
The first round of the playoffs with seeds 5-12 will be played on December 20-21 and hosted by the higher-seed school.
The quarterfinals will be held on December 31st and January 1st at either the Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl and Rose Bowl. The four highest-ranked conference champions will be assigned based on conference bowl tie-ins. If Miami were to be the ACC champion, they would play in the Peach Bowl on New Years.
The semifinals will be held on January 9-10th at the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl. The national championship game is on January 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
