Miami BBall unranked…


The Associated Press (AP) released their preseason men’s Top 25 basketball teams on Monday.


The Miami Hurricanes are NOT ranked.


The AP have the Canes at #38, at #4 in the ACC conference behind #7 Duke (1,154 points), #9 North Carolina (1,037) and #37 Wake Forest.


Miami is coming off a 15-17 season and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three years.


Miami returns three players, including PG Nigel Pack, SF Matthew Cleveland and SF Paul Djobet, with 10 new Canes.


Joining the back court are true freshmen SG Jalil Bethea, transfer scoring guards Jalen Blackmon and A.J. Staton-McCray and true freshman PG Divine Ugochukwu.


Joining the front court are transfers forwards Brandon Johnson and Lynn Kidd with transfer center Kiree Huie.  Miami will be much taller up front this season.


Miami head coach Jim Larranaga begins his 14th season in Coral Gables. Coach L has a 740–500 (.597) career record as a college head basketball coach. During his tenure at Miami he has a record of 270–166 (.619). with two ACC Championships and five NCAA Tournaments including Elite Eight and Final Four appearances. He has too many coaching awards to list.


Miami will play two exhibition games before opening the season with eight non-conference games, including the opener against Fairleigh-Dickinson on November 4th, followed by #16 Arkansas on December 3rd, and #12 Tennessee in New York on December 10. The Canes first ACC game will be against Clemson on December 7th. Miami will begin its full slate of conference games on January 1st.


The ACC will release the full schedules on October 14th.
