Miami crushed, 80-65

Florida State jumped out to a big lead in the first half and Miami had no answer, losing 80-65 on Wednesday.

The defeat was the Canes’ fourth straight loss and 14th consecutive conference loss going back to last season. The Canes have not beaten FSU at home since 2018.

The game was close early until FSU surged with a 13-0 run to take a 39-25. lead into halftime.

The Canes attempted a rally in the second half to close the gap to 54-48 but the Noles responded with 13-2 run to lead 67-50. FSU stretched their lead to 25 points late in the game.

Miami (4-11, 0-4 ACC) shot just 36.7% (22 of 60) from the field and was even worse beyond the arc at 23.8% (5 of 21). FSU (11-4, 2-2) also won the turnover battle as the Canes committed 13 turnovers to Noles' 10.

Miami could not get defensive stops. FSU shot 50% (32 of 64) from the floor and hit 41.7% (10 of 24) from 3-point range.

"I thought we played hard, we didn't play well," said interim head coach Bill Courtney. "We turned the ball over too much. The keys to the game that we talked about before the game, really hurt us. They hurt us in transition, they hurt us at the rim, and they heard us in offensive rebounds. Conversely, we didn't make shots, which we had to do against them. We turned the ball over too much and so that's very simple. They executed our game plan, we didn’t.”

Miami hosts Wake Forest (11-4, 3-1) on Saturday at the Watsco Center. Tipoff is set for 5:15 p.m. EST, with coverage on CW and WQAM-560.
