The Hurricanes gave up the game-winning basket to Virginia in the last seconds on Saturday in Charlottesville, 86-85.
With 2.7 seconds on the clock, Virginia’s Mylyjael Poteat was fouled by Miami’s Brandon Johnson to tie the game and then hit the foul try to win the game.
Matthew Cleveland scored 21 points and Jalil Bethea added 15 for Miami (4-10, 0-3 ACC). Miami shot 58.9 percent (33 of 56) from the field, and 8 of 17 (47.1 percent) from behind the arc.
Miami returns home to host Florida State (9-4, 0-2) on Wednesday. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. EST, with coverage on ACCN and WQAM-560.
