Miami pulls away, defeats Wake, 42-14


Miami continued to put pressure of the NCAA’s secret selection committee and the brand-basis AP Poll with a 42-14 win over Wake Forest


Miami (10-1, 6-1 ACC) turned it on in the fourth quarter to break open a close game in the first half. The Canes dominated in every statistical metric. Miami gained 508 total offensive yards to 193 total yards for Wake.


Cam Ward led Miami’s passing attack, going 27-38 for 280 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 INT. Jordan Lyle led all Miami rushers with 115 yards on 7 carries (16.4 npc). Jacolby George led Cane receivers with 91 yards and 2 touchdowns. TE Elijah Arroyo contributed 6 receptions for 79 yards.


Miami’s defense clamped down on Wake mesh offense, yielding 195 total yards, including holding RB Demond Claiborne to only 62 yards on 19 carries. The Canes sacked QB Hank Bachmeier five times. Miami senior safety Mishael Powell intercepted Bachmeier in the fourth quarter and returned it 76 yards for a touchdown.


Miami closes their season on the road next Saturday against Syracuse. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. Coverage will be provided by ESPN and WQAM-560.
