Miami turns it on, routs USF, 50-15


The Miami Hurricanes finished their non-conference slate with a 50-15 victory over South Florida in front of 58,616 on Saturday night in Tampa.


#8 Miami (4-0, 0-0 ACC) remains undefeated going into their ACC schedule next week when they host Virginia Tech (2-2, 1-1) on Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium.




Against the Bulls, Miami amassed 574 yards of offense to 365 by USF. The Canes posted 27 first downs behind 404 passing yards and 170 rushing yards.


Miami was again led by QB Cam Ward on offense, with 404 yards passing (70.6%), 3 touchdown passes, one interception and 25 rushing yards. RB Damien Martinez was a red-zone threat with three touchdown runs. True freshmen Jordan Lyle led Miami rushers with 104 yards on the ground late in the game.


USF’s high tempo offense kept the Bulls in the game until late in the second quarter, with Miami struggling to take a 22-15 lead into halftime.


Miami made adjustments at halftime and came out roaring in the second half, scoring on four touchdown drives while shutting out the Bulls.


The Canes return home next Friday night to open their ACC schedule against Virginia Tech (2-2, 1-1) at Hard Rock Stadium.
