Miami upset by Drake, 80-69

Miami played without consistency on both end of the floor to loose, 80-69 to Drake on Thursday in the first round of the Charleston Classic.

The Canes’ offense shot poorly (40.9% from the floor) and were out rebounded 35-23. Miami never led against Drake.

”They're a very experienced team,” said Miami head coach Jim Larranaga. “They run that offense like a well-oiled machine."

Miami was led by point guard Nijel Pack with 17 points but he made only 30.7% of his shots from the floor. Forward Matthew Cleveland contributed 12 points.

"What you have to do with any losses, learn from it and then move on and not let one loss lead to a second," said Larranaga. "We can play better than we did today, but we've known from the very start of practice that our defense and rebounding are key areas that we are weak at and despite the fact that we work on it every day, I also see the mistakes we make every single day.”

Miami (3-1) plays Oklahoma State (3-1) on Friday in the consolation round. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on ESPNU and WQAM-560. in the consolation round.
