Miami’s women’s basketball opened their 2024-25 season with a convincing 78-53 victory over Stetson.
Miami started slowly, trailing 16-13 after the first quarter. But the Canes took control defensively on the boards and took a 32-25 lead into the break.
The Canes continued to control the paint in the second half and finished with 58 rebounds, the most Miami has had since 2019. Miami’s bench depth wore down Stetson, outscoring the Hatters 33-11.
The win was the first victory for new head coach Tricica Cullop at Miami (1-0, 0-0 ACC).
“I’m just really proud of this group,” said coach Tricica Cullop. “It’s a joy to coach them, and I’m excited to see where we are going, because I think we did some good things today but the ceiling for this team is really high, and I can’t wait to keep helping them reach their potential.”
The Canes had four players scored in double figures, led by Jasmyne Roberts with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Haley Cavinder contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. Cameron Williams recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Ahnay Adams scored 10 points (3-4 shooting and 4-4 free throws), with eight rebounds.
Miami will host Jacksonville on Monday, Nov. 11 at Watsco Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
