Miami wins season opener, 113-72


Miami opened their 2024-25 basketball season with a 113-72 win over the Fairleigh-Dickinson on Monday night at the Watsco Center.


The Canes had little trouble scoring against the Knights, tallying 113 points, the most by a Miami team since 1987. Miami was led by transfer Lynn Kidd with 24 points and nine rebounds. Point guard Nigel Pack added 21 points and Jalen Blackmon and freshman Divine Ugochukwu contributed 15 points each to a balance attack. Power forward Brandon Johnson made his presence felt on the boards with nine rebounds.


Miami jumped out to an early 12-3 lead as Kidd led the way with 10 points, shooting a per 4-4 from the floor and two free throws.


By halftime, Miami led 56-35 behind 71% shooting from the floor. The Canes dominated in the paint.


Miami (1-0, 0-0 ACC) will host Binghamton on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. ET. Coverage will be on ACCNX and WQAM-560.
