The Mountain West Conference announced late Tuesday its eighth full-time member school will be Hawai’i, effective July 1, 2026.
Prior to this announcement, Hawai’i was a football only member, with all other sports competing in the Big West conference.
The Mountain West needed an eighth full-time member to meet the NCAA minimum to remain a conference. Hawai'i became a football-only member of the conference in 2012.
In 2026, the Mountain West member schools will include Air Force, Nevada, New Mexico, UNLV, UTEP, San Jose State, Hawai’i and Wyoming.
It’s been reported the Mountain West will likely continue to pursue expansion.
