NCAA: More change arrives!

Major changes were announced this week at the NCAA.

Transfer Portal:

On Tuesday, the NCAA’s Division I Council decided the shorten the transfer portal windows for FBS AND FCS football and men’s and women’s basketball.

The NCAA reduced the number of days players can enter the transfer portal from 45 total days to 30 days. The early window will run from Dec. 9 through Dec. 28. The spring window will last 10 days from April 16-25.

Men's and women's basketball will also conduct a 30-day transfer window that open on the day after the end of the second round of their NCAA tournaments.

Players in all sports will continue to get an additional 30-day transfer window in the event of a head-coaching change. In such cases, the transfer portal will open, opening the day after the departure of their head coach is announced. Players who enter the portal will be able to transfer to a new school at any time.

National Letter of Intent:

On Wednesday, the NCAA announced the elimination of the national letter of intent (NLI) program. The letter of intent was a formal, binding agreement between prospective athletes and college programs since 1964.

Taking the place of NLI will be a new financial aid agreement. This new legal document will be similar to the NLI but will likely include the impending sharing model recently approved as part of House antitrust settlement.

Recruiting Calendar:

It is expected that addition change could follow with the NCAA football recruiting calendar.

In this new era of college athletics only one thing can be certain…change.
