National Signing Day is just about in the books.
At the time of this writing, Miami has signed 21 new recruits in the 2025 in the 2025 class. While the signing period is still open, we have an early idea of Miami’s remaining roster needs. We will know more about our final roster needs after the early signing period and the open transfer portal period.
Until then, let’s review potential offensive candidates.
Quarterback:
Cam Ward, after a terrific season, is out of eligibility and will play in the NFL next season. Reserve QB Reese Poffenbarger has made his intention known he will again enter the transfer portal.
That leaves Miami with only two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster going into spring camp, Emory Williams and Judd Anderson. They will be joined by true freshman Luke Nickel. That is not a lot of college game experience. We expect the Canes will go back into the portal for an experienced and proven college quarterback
The early candidates could include Miller Moss (USC), Conner Weigman (Texas A&M), Kaidon Salter (Liberty), and Jackson Arnold (OKL).
We expect more quality quarterbacks will be entering the portal in the next month.
Wide Receiver:
Miami is losing a ton of quality receivers going into spring, including Xavier Restrepo, Jacoby George and Sam Brown, Jr..
The Canes return only Isaiah Horton with significant college experience. While the Canes have a number of young high ceiling receivers, they lack much game experience. Look for Miami to search the portal for at least one experienced and proven receiver this winter.
The early candidates could include KC Concepcion (NC State), CJ Daniels (LSU), Dane Key (Kentucky), Micah Hudson (Texas Tech) and Johntay Cook II (Texas).
Offensive Center:
Miami returns four quality starters on the offensive line in 2025, with a number of developing young studs. However, the Canes once again need critical experience and a proven track record at center.
Miami has not yet identified a transfer center of interest, but will consider candidates as they enter the transfer portal.
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami has had some good success recently in the transfer portal. However, we expect the Canes to be more selective this cycle.
GO CANES!
