The winter window for the Transfer Portal is just about at the midway point. Over the past ten days we have read and heard about Miami’s potential targets. We have a much better idea of where the Canes’ staff is going in this window.
It’s time to assemble that information and predict Miami’s strategy.
From all reports, Miami is focused on six position groups in this order; defensive backs, defensive interior line, wide receivers, interior offensive line and quarterback.
Defensive Backs:
Miami must address the back end of the defense. Look for the Canes to heavily pursue both safeties and cornerback. We feel we could see 2-3 additional DBs on Greentree this spring.
Possible Targets:
CB Cameron Calhoun (Utah)
CB Emmanuel Karnley (Arizona)
CB Ethan O'Connor (Washington State)
S Adrian Wilson (Washington State)
Interior Defensive Line:
Miami’s losing a ton of game experience on the defensive interior, despite very talented but young group of defensive tackles. Look for Miami to bring in two veterans to bridge to the youngsters.
Possible Targets:
DT Keeshawn Silver (Kentucky)
DT David Blay (Louisiana Tech)
Wide Receivers:
Like the defensive interior, Miami is losing a ton of talented experience from the wide receiver group. Look for the Canes to bring in 1-2 proven receivers to bridge to the young receivers.
Possible Targets:
WR Eric Singleton (Georgia Tech)
WR KC Concepcion (NC State)
WR CJ Daniels (LSU)
WR/TE Caleb Odom (Alabama)
WR Eric Rivers (FIU)
WR De’Zhaun Stribling (Oklahoma State)
Offensive Center:
Miami is reportedly assessing their options at interior offensive line. If the right player enters the portal, Miami will pursue.
Possible Targets:
OC Jordan White (Liberty)
OL Kavion Broussard (Ole Miss)
Quarterback:
Why is QB so far down our priority list? Miami is very sensitive to the dynamics of this position. Unless a “special” talent emerges from the portal, the staff is ready to turn the keys over to Emory Williams, at least through spring practice.
Possible Targets:
John Mateer (Washington State) note: not in portal yet
Fernando Mendoza (Cal)
Miller Moss (USC)
Other possible priorities:
Miami is reportedly assessing their options at other positions, including linebacker, and tight end. If the right player enters the portal, Miami may elect to pursue.
Possible Targets:
LB Mikai Gbayor (Nebraska)
TE Micah Riley (Auburn )
BOTTOM LINE:
So far in the winter portal window, Miami has lost six players. We feel Miami will be aggressive in this window but more selective this time around. We see the Canes taking 6-8 players from the portal this month.
GO CANES!
