theSolutions: Reduce the CFP

College football is in trouble.

Fans, schools are frustrated. More and more fans and alumni high rollers are using their feet, leaving the hallowed halls of college football.

Something bold and creative needs to be done. Is there a solution to save the game? Probably not one solution. It will take multiple solutions to get the game back on track.

This series will present creative, bold, but logical solutions for discussion. We’re going to throw some spaghetti on the wall in hopes of stirring some serious discussion.

In part five, we break down our fourth solution, the “Reduce the CFP.”

CURRENT:

The NCAA and the college football playoff has instituted a 12-school playoff in 2024.

PROPOSED:

Reduce the number of schools in the playoff from 12 to 8, awarding the eight conference champions.

The NCAA has always said they value conference champions highly in any playoff. The reduction of Division I to eight geographic conferences allows for eight conference champions.

BOTTOM LINE:

No biased polls. No inconsistent selection committee.

The National Champion decided solely on the field of competition.

In part six of our series, we will breakdown our fifth solution, the elimination of the human element in the college football playoffs.
