Tis the Season… Defensive Back

December 13, 2024

College football has changed the game. The Transfer Portal giveth and taketh.

During this festive season, we sometimes have to say goodbye. But we get to also say hello.

This ongoing series will attempt to keep you up-to-date with the comings and goings in our Hurricanes family. Yes, it may be sad to say goodbye to our friends. But at the same time, we get to meet new friends and welcome new family members.

So, here we go. We’ll update any new developments as they happen.

Defensive Back:

Our Canes’ family is saying goodbye to starting safety Mishael Powell, starting corner Daryl Porter, Robert Stafford, CB Myles Mooyoung and Robby Washington. We wish them nothing but success as they begin new chapters in their life.

Returning: CB OJ Frederique Jr., CB Damari Brown, S Jaden Harris, S Markeith Williams, S Zaquan Patterson, CB Dylan Day, CB D'Yoni Hill, CB Jadais Richard, S Isaiah Taylor, and S Isaiah Thomas.

New Recruits: Joining the above will be true freshmen S Bryce Fitzgerald , CB Amari Wallace, CB Jaboree Antoine and CB Chris Ewald.

Players of Interest: Safety Dillon Thieneman (Purdue), CB Ja'Keem Jackson (Florida), CB Ethan O'Connor (Washington State), CB Emmanuel Karnely (Arizona), CB Cameron Calhoun (Utah), CB Julian Humphrey (Georgia).

BOTTOM LINE:

Miami’s defensive backfield was the Canes’ perceived team weakness in 2024. With the current attrition, defensive backs are the highest priority moving forward. There’s talent but not a lot of veteran experience currently on the roster. Miami will be looking for veteran experience and production in the portal to bridge to the talented youngsters. Look for the Canes to sign one, maybe two college veterans.

In the coming weeks and months, other college defensive backs may emerge. The CaneReports will update this list of transfer targets.

GO CANES!
