UnderTheScope: Offensive Line

ljm623

Miami had one of the best offensive line rooms in the ACC and the country in 2024. It looks like the line will again be a strength of the team in 2025

In 2024, the Canes were eight deep along the line with Jalen Rivers, Ryan Rodriguez, Zach Carpenter, Anez Cooper and Francis Mauigoa providing both size and experience up front for the Canes’ powerful offense in 2024.

As is college football, injuries came into play last season, with Rivers and Rodriguez going down early in the season. Markel Bell and Matthew McCoy stepped in and performed admirably and are now ready to assume full-time starting roles in 2025.

Also returning are Rodriguez, Samson Okunlola, Tommy Kinsler, Nino Francavilla, Juan Minaya, and Deryc Plazz. Joining them are TCU transfer James Brockermeyer, and true freshmen Seuseu Alofaituli, Max Buchanan, Jaden Wilkerson and Demetrius Campbell.

Brockermeyer will immediately compete for the starting center position, while Okunlola, Kinsler and possibly Francavilla will compete for meaningful snaps as game ready backups.

Going into spring practice, we expect Mauigoa to lead the group at right tackle, with Cooper at right guard, Brockermeyer at center, McCoy at left guard and Bell at left tackle. Okunlola and Kinsler will backup at both guard and tackle. Rodriguez will backup at both center and guard. Francavilla will continue his development at center.

Here’s our breakdown of the depth chart going into spring practice.

Left Tackle: Bell, Okunlola, Minaya

Left Guard: McCoy, Rodriguez, Okunlola,

Center: Brockermeyer, Rodriguez, Francavilla

Right Guard: Cooper, Kinsler, Plazz

Right Tackle: Mauigoa, Okunlola, Kinsler

True freshmen Seuseu Alofaituli, Max Buchanan, Jaden Wilkerson and Demetrius Campbell will begin their development in 2025.

BOTTOM LINE:

Miami is again big, strong, agile AND deep on the offensive line. This line could be the best in the ACC and the country. Carson Beck and company should be smiling right now.

GO CANES!
