Miami head coach Jai Lucas got his second portal commitment on Thursday when former Michigan point guard Tre Donaldson (Tallahassee, FL - Florida State University School) committed to Miami.

At 6’-3”/195, Trey was considered a four-star point guard coming out of high school and ranked the #21 point guard in the 2022 recruiting class.

Head coach Jai Lucas knows what he wants in a point guard, having been a McDonalds All-American in high school.

"The biggest thing is you have got be an extension of me," said Lucas. "I need you to be a coach on the court. I need you to be able to command the team and lead, and then you have to practice what you preach. You're going to have the ball and I'm going to give you this responsibility to play this position. You have to make sure that everything you're doing is aligned with me and aligned with the team because it's hard to get your teammates to want to follow you if you're not doing the right thing.”

Size matters. Coach Lucas likes big guards.

"When you can have big guards that are 6-4 and up, it gives you the ability to do a lot of things defensively, but offensively as well. It gives you that opportunity to kind of play multiple ways and that's how I kind of want to be. I want to be able to do a lot of different things and put people in different ways and create advantages just through certain situations that people aren't accustomed to seeing like guards screening on the ball, guards posting up, bigs on the perimeter being playmakers. So just a little bit of everything.”

Trey averaged 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steal in 37 starts for the Wolverines this past season. He shot 43.3 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from 3 point range and 69.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Trey has one year of eligibility remaining and joins PF Malik Reneau on Miami’s next generation team.

Welcome to the U, Trey!
