Miami received bad news on Thursday morning when 2025 WR commit Malachi Toney de-committed from the Canes’ recruiting class.
Toney committed to Miami in August of 2023 as a 2026 prospect. He recently reclassified to the 2025 class and joined Daylyn Upshaw as one of two Miami wide receiver commitments. This is not a surprising development as there have been rumors his commitment suddenly turned “soft,” as he visited Alabama last weekend and Oregon also continued to recruit Toney. We expect Toney to flip to the Tide in the near future.
At 5’-10.5”/182, Toney is rated 92, ranked the #25 wide receiver in the 2025 class and the #215 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Miami is still searching for at least two more wide receivers from the high school ranks. The Canes are focused on getting bigger in the wide receiver room.
Among Miami’s targets are Florida commit Joshua Moore (Pembroke Pines, FL - West Broward), Georgia commit Tyler Williams (Seffner, FL - Armwood), Florida commit Vernell Brown III (Orlando, FL - Jones), Oregon commit Dallas Wilson (Tampa, FL - Tampa Bay Tech), LSU commit Derek Meadows* (Las Vegas, NV - Bishop Gorman), and App. State commit Teddy Hoffman* (Delray Beach, FL - Atlantic).
GO CANES!
